My favourite memory from KPTM Ipoh is when we were assigned
a community service project in semester two. The objective was a twenty-person
group project, and we had five weeks to arrange an event before it took place.
My group decided to hold an event in which we gave a talk about animation to
the orphans at Rumah Kasih Harmoni Paya Jaras. Due of Covid-19 uprising
situations, the only persons who could arrive and handle the event were four
people.
My three other friends and I came at Rumah Kasih Harmoni
Paya Jaras on January 16, 2022, and we gathered to welcome each other for the
first time, as this was our first in-person interaction. Then we set up our
equipment before beginning our presentation and discussion. Amir Hakimi, the
group leader, Abid, Deena, and I proceeded to deliver the theme of our course
to the orphanage children. They provide us positive feedback after the session
and can also address the majority of our questions.
Following that, we continued our activity of manufacturing
bookmarks. We prepared the supplies for the bookmark event and distributed them
to the children so that they could begin making bookmarks. This event's goal is
to get these kids creative juices flowing before the final event.
After that, we have a recess during which we sponsored their
evening meal. We provided them with drinks and beverages. It's extremely
heartwarming to see those kids being so good and graciously thanking us. We
also take a quick break to give them their one-hour break. Then Zuhur arrived,
and we went to their Surau to participate in the Zuhur prayer.
Next, we continued to conduct our last event which is a
drawing and colouring contest. The are six prizes, three for the boys and three
more for the girls. We then gave A4 papers to the kids and art supplies so that
they can start drawing and colouring. The event was set for two hours only, so
they need to use their time properly.
We collected all the artworks after two hours and began
selecting the top twelve drawings from the boys and girls. The voting method is
then started using our new community service Instagram platform. Others who
were unable to attend the event cast votes on Instagram. The top six were then
determined, three for boys and three for girls.
We then held a prize-giving ceremony and presented Encik
Jamal, the headmaster of Rumah Kasih Harmoni Paya Jaras, with a plaque. The
event is then concluded with a photo session. Some of the kids told us
"Come again, we love when people come here, and your event is so
exciting" and "Can you come again tomorrow?" as we were packing
our belongings to leave home. which is both heart-warming and heart-breaking.
The event was conducted well, and the headmaster thank us
for handling it so professionally. We were so blessed and thank Encik Jamal
also for trusting us and letting us to conduct the event. The event was so fun,
and I hope I can experience it for the first time again.
