My Favourite Movie (The Batman)

Everyone in the world must have their favourite movie, including me. I have chosen The Batman: 2022 as my favourite movie. The Batman is a 2022 American superhero film based on the DC Comics character Batman. The film was produced by Warner Bros. Pictures, DC Films, 6th & Idaho, and Dylan Clark Productions. The film was directed by Matt Reeves, who also wrote the screenplay with Peter Craig. It stars Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne/Batman, alongside Zoe Kravitz, Paul Dano. The film sees Batman, who has been fighting crime in Gotham City for two years, uncover corruption while pursuing the Riddler, a serial killer who targets Gotham's elite.

The story begins on Halloween night in Gotham City, where the mayor, Don Mitchell Jr., is murdered by a recent uprising serial killer, calling himself the Riddler. Our main character, billionaire Bruce Wayne, who has operated for two years as a crime-fighting vigilante dressed up in a bat-persona suit, investigates alongside the Gotham City Police Department (GCPD). With the help from Lieutenant James Gordon, they discovered the messages that the Riddler had left for Batman, but Commissioner Pete Savage wouldn’t let a vigilante investigate anymore and forced him to leave. As time passed, the Riddler killed Savage and left another message for Batman.

Bat and Gordon decipher the message left by the Riddler and discover the thumb drive in Mitchell’s car containing images of Mitchell with a woman, Anika, at the Iceberg Lounge (a nightclub hosted by mobster Carmine Falcone’s lieutenant, Penguin). As Batman rushed into the club and started questioning Penguin for the information, he saw Selina Kyle, Annika’s roommate, who works at the club as a waitress. After realizing that Annika had disappeared, Batman and Selina worked together to search for the answer. Through Selina’s spies' work, Batman discovers that Savage was paid by Falcone and district attorney Gil Colson.

However, Batman wasn’t the only one with the information. During Mitchell’s funeral, there was a car accident that rammed through the church. The driver was Colson, with a timed collar bomb strapped onto his neck, looking for Batman. As soon as Batman arrives, the Riddler calls him via Colson’s phone and threatens to detonate the bomb if Colson can’t answer three riddles. The riddles begin as they speak. The Batman helped Colson with two riddles, but he stumbled on the third one. Colson refused to answer the third riddle as he was asked to give the name of the informant who gave the GCPD information that led to a historic drug bust, ending mobster Sal Maroni’s operation. Colson accepted his fate, and the bomb exploded, killing him and knocking Batman unconscious.

Later, Batman and Gordon follow the Riddler’s trails to the ruins of an orphanage operated by Bruce’s parents, Thomas and Martha Wayne. They learned that the Riddler was one of the residents at the orphanage who had suffered the loss and was holding a grudge against the Wayne family. Meanwhile, at Wayne Manor, Alfred, the butler for the Wayne family, was hospitalized for opening a bomb package addressed to Bruce. After that, the Riddler exposed the truth about Thomas, who was running for the mayor before he was murdered, and hired Falcone to kill a journalist for threatening to reveal the truth about his wife’s history of mental illness. Bruce, who grew up believing that his father was a decent man, confronts Alfred at the hospital to find out the truth.

Alfred explained to Bruce that Falcone had Thomas and Martha killed to prevent the chaos. In an instant, Bruce suits up to catch up with Selena as he knew Selena would do anything to avenge Annika's death by killing her own father, which was Falcone himself, because Mitchell told her that Falcone was the informant. Selena prevents Falcone from killing her and explains to her that she shouldn't allow Falcone to destroy her future by killing him and facing prison. Batman arrested Falcone and escorted him to the GCPD. As soon as they arrived at the gate, there was a shadow figure from the top side of the next building. To bring the culprit under the light, Batman remembered the riddle that Riddler left for him. As soon as Batman realised the Riddler's scheme, a bullet pierced through Falcone's chest. The sniper was located at the front of the lounge. As Batman and the GCPD stormed into the building to apprehend the Riddler, As they managed to capture the serial killer, his true identity was unmasked as forensic accountant Edward Nashton.

The Riddler was sent to Arkham State Hospital. Edward says that the world wasn't fair as Bruce gained sympathy for his parents' murder, but Edward was left alone and neglected. He idolised Batman as a crime-fighting vigilante, but Batman angrily rejected him. With his heart filled with rage and hatred, Edward begins ranting and accidentally reveals his true motives. When Batman realises that the war hasn't ended yet, Edward begins to sing "Ave Maria", which was played during Mitchell's funeral. In a blink of an eye, Batman rushed to save the next target, which is the last candidate who is running for mayor, Bella Real. Unfortunately, as soon as Batman realises the scheme, the bombs that Riddler has planted explode around Gotham City, leading to the destruction of the breakwaters and flooding of the city.

As soon as Batman arrived at the shelter, he saw a bunch of masked people dressed up like Riddlers on the top of the arena, aiming for the mayor. Batman made a flashy entrance as he bombed the roof and started fighting the thugs. As he was fighting for the sake of justice, Selena backed him up by fighting side by side with him. The thugs were taken down one by one with their deadly combo. However, the thugs had another trick up their sleeves. They cut off the power line as they intended to electrocute the victim that was trapped inside the flood. Batman saw the power line swinging just past the crowds in the flooded water below, throwing sparks everywhere as it flails wildly. Batman used his grappling hook to swing toward the cord and grab onto it. The moment he grabbed onto the cord, he used his detachable Bat-arang on his chest to sever it, causing him to be shocked by the electricity and fall into the water. Batman rises from the water, lights a flare and leads the survivors to safety. The heroic acts of Batman were acknowledged by the people of Gotham as they saw him as a symbol of hope, inspiring people to keep moving on.

In conclusion, this movie has everything that you could expect. The cinematography was breath-taking. The graphics were stunning and the acting was on point. The thrills that I felt when I watched this movie in the cinema were peaked. I highly recommend this movie to anyone out there who is looking for an action movie.
